:: President Bush's trip to Africa ::
This article from the
Economist does a good job of summarising the
social problems + conflicts President Bush will be addressing during his forth coming trip to Africa.
President Bush has said that “It’s in our national interests that Africa become a prosperous place" and Earth-Info.Net is pleased to see him taking the time to visit Africa, and the US starting to engage with the long-term problems in
Liberia,
Congo,
Zimbabwe,
Ethiopia,
Uganda +
Sudan.
The cynics out there may (or may not!) be right when they mention the growing importance of
West African oil to US national security and/or the interests of
seed +
pharmaceutical producers being behind this visit... we'll just have to see what happens.
P.S. Earth-Info.Net is still
not convinced that US plans to spend
$5 billion (out of
$15 billion) on teaching abstinence from sex is the
most effective means of fighting
AIDS in Africa...
