Why is there always so much money for conflict, and pennies for the human condition?"
Stephen Lewis, the UN envoy on AIDS in Africa made an impassioned appeal in London on 16th June 2003, in which he accused Western governments of “
criminal negligence” in turning away from the African continent, just at the very time when he believes the
AIDS pandemic can be beaten. He said that there now is a vehicle, the
Global Fund, but the resources, that could prolong the lives of millions of people, are missing.
