A
BBC NewsOnline forum has allowed people to ask an energy expert (
Prof Ian Fells) about the
Energy White Paper that the UK has just published, and the government's ability to follow up on their goal of a
60% cut in greenhouse gas emissions, relative to 1990 levels, by 2050 based on their proposals for greater
energy efficiency and the relative roles of
renewable + nuclear energy sectors.
Prof. Fells makes many interesting + quite subtle points regarding the
realities of the UK's current + future energy provision...
Overall there appear to be a number of "
reality gaps" that are largely to do with the
political difficulties associated with increased nuclear power being dodged + a
lack of funds being made available for renewables.
The
absence of a tax on aircraft fuel is highlighted yet again...
